The first Methodist Church services in Australia were held in the early part of the nineteenth century. An alteration was made in Church policy in 1874 when the Australian Conference became a General Conference meeting triennially with annual conferences being held in each state. From a small beginning in May 1932, the Methodist Crusaders Choir, then with 75 choristers, was hurriedly formed and made its first public appearance at the General Conference Meetings of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It is primarily a hymn-singing choir, and the devoted members feel that the main purpose in their coming together is to spread the gospel message of the Church by means of song.
